Poco F6 chipset and camera details revealed

We’ve known for a while that the Poco F6 will probably be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, but now there is proof – found inside the HyperOS source code by the Android Headlines team.

The Poco F6, code name “Peridot” (and model number N16T), will follow in the path of the recent Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro, which was the first phone with the 8s Gen 3. However, the Poco might be based on a different Xiaomi model, the Redmi Note 13 Turbo (which is yet to be unveiled).

The 8s Gen 3 is an interesting mix of 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3 design, though in some ways it is less powerful than either (e.g. no 8K video recording). Here’s how the three recent 8-series chips compare:

However, this chip was built exactly for phones like the Poco F6 – most of the power of a flagship for a lot less money. The Poco F5 offered impressive performance for its cost on the strength of the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 (which beat the 7 Gen 3 that came after it).

Anyway, the AH team also found details on the cameras. The main will have a 50MP Sony IMX882, a 1/2” sensor that was used in recent phones like the Realme 12 Pro and the OnePlus Ace 3V. The 8MP ultra wide will use the old IMX355. The selfie camera uses an OV20B from OmniVision.

The displays will be sourced from two suppliers: TCL and Tianma. Unfortunately, there is no word on the display specs just yet.

The Poco F6 should be announced in April or more likely in May. We may see the Redmi Note 13 Turbo launch in China before that. There should be a Poco F6 Pro model too – rumor has it that it will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip (up from the 8+ Gen 1 on the 2023 Pro).
