As the specter of AI-generated disinformation looms large, tech giants vow to crack down on fabricated content that could sway voters and disrupt elections taking place around the world this year

As a record number of people across the world will go to the polls this year, concerns rise about the use of AI-generated deceptive content to sway voters and undermine election integrity. This puts the spotlight on the world’s tech titans, who are coming together in an effort to fight back against the rising tide of AI-powered trickery that could deceive voters.

Earlier this week, Meta announced the creation of a ‘task force’ to prevent the abuse of AI ahead of this year’s EU elections. This came in the wake of a ‘pact‘ that 20 tech companies – including Microsoft, Google, Meta, X and TikTok – signed last month in a bid to counter risks related to deceptive AI content.
