A tipster on Weibo with still-questionable accuracy claims that Apple suppliers have already sent iPad Air samples to the US and it is possible that the device will be offered in two variants – with a glossy or matte screen. The same applies to the upcoming iPad Pro.

Upcoming iPad Pro and Air may offer matte and glossy display options

However, it’s unclear whether the tipster meant a full-fledged matte finish or an anti-reflective coating like the one on the Pro Display XDR from 2019. The texture uses nano-texture glass, forming an anti-reflective pattern and mitigating that mirror-like effect. Samsung did something similar with its brand-new Galaxy S24 Ultra, which makes the report rather plausible.

The same source posted a report about the iPhone 17 series, claiming the future phones will feature the same anti-reflective tech found on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

It’s a bit too early to make something out of this, but our bet is that the iPads will likely introduce an improved anti-reflective tech, which will trickle down to iPhones next year.
